The minivan has a bit of history. It all starts with its invention

around 1935. The first minivan was invented by William Stout and was called the Scarab. However, this model didn't have have such high popularity levels. It was until 1950 where minivans started to gain popularity. 

One of the most popular minivans was the Type 2 from Volkswagen. Soon after, American manufacturers began to experiment with this new type of vehicle. By 1960, General Motors developed its Corvair Greenbrier.

But it was not until Chrysler came up with its Dodge Caravan and Plymouth Voyager when successful minivan models came to the market. Soon many other models came about, including the Ford Windstar, Ford Aerostar, Chevrolet Venture, Chevrolet Astro, among others.

Now, let's analyze a bit more about the pros and cons of minivans. One of the biggest advantages of the minivan is that it can accommodate several passengers and also some luggage. This makes the van ideal for vacations, families, and transporting large items. 

The minivan has yet another advantage, and that is visibility. This can contribute to safer driving.

However, not everything is sweet in this world. A minivan can be expensive to buy. This is because the larger a car is, the more it usually costs more to manufacture. Around the same price levels are SUVs, which can actually cost more. Another disadvantages of minivans is their gas mileage. Because of their size, minivans generally give lower mileage per gallon compared to other vehicle types.
