About Chevrolet

The Story of Chevrolet begins with one man, Louis Chevrolet. Louis Chevrolet was born in 1878 in Switzerland. Since his youth, Louis showed great creative ability. At the age of 18, he worked in Paris for the Mors car company and later moved to New York, where worked as a mechanic. In addition, Chevrolet enjoyed racing. Through racing, Chevrolet met GM's founder, William C. Durant. After being ousted from GM by its financers, Durant came to Louis Chevrolet and together founded the Chevrolet Motor Car Company in 1911.

Duran's can provide you with reliable auto glass repair in the bay area.  If you need windshield repair or any other service in Brentwood or Oakley, don't also hesitate to call us!
Shortly after the company was founded, Durant and Chevrolet developed their first vehicle, known as the Classic Six, it could reach speeds of 65mph and brought in some respectable sales. However, soon Durant and Chevrolet found themselves in a difficult situation, as each one of them had a different plan for the company. While Durant wanted to produce more affordable cars for the US mass market, Chevrolet had a different idea. Chevrolet, with his racing background, wanted to lead the company into developing high quality cars.

Durant's idea proved successful and the Chevrolet Car Company grew so fast that soon Durant was able to negotiate a takeover of GM and by 1925, it passed Ford to become the best selling car maker in the United States. What is even more interesting, Chevrolet remained the best selling car company in the United States for 40 years, from 1936 to 1976.

When your car breaks down, it can be a head ache; but it doesn't have to be. Just called Arlington Auto Shop for the best auto repair in Hercules CA!
However, not all was great fortune for Chevrolet, as there were also set backs. For instance, Chevrolet suffered during the economic crises of the late 1970s and the early 80s. In 2008, also, GM faced great debs and bankruptcy but was able to survive with the government's help.
