What are the Symptoms of a Failing Transmission?

Many people hear that their transmission is failing and immediately go into a state of panic. Fortunately, just because your transmission light is on, or you think something is wrong with your transmission, doesn’t mean that something terrible is actually wrong. Often small corrections or minor repairs can fix even the worst transmission problems. 

Here are a few common transmission repairs that typically require adjustment, and some steps you can take to correct them. 

· Check engine light. This is one of the most frequent problems people have in their car. If you have this sign it may be a symptom of a failing engine, and the odds are good you may need to get a checkup on your transmission.

· Unusual noises. Any type of unusual banging, buzzing or clanking noises suggest that your car needs a tune-up and that you should invest in a checkup.

· Morning sickness. Just like people, cars can get old and sometimes as the transmission gets old the car requires more time than usual to warm up. If you find your car will not move in the cold weather, or needs very long times to warm up, you may need to get your transmission tuned up. 

· Slipping Some cars handle well in the snow and others less so. If your car takes a serious dive going from performing well to performing very poorly, then your car may require more than a simply once over. You may need to take your car and your car’s transmission in for a little tune up. 

· Stalling. This is perhaps one of the simplest signs that your transmission may be going, and that you need to have your car looked at by a proper mechanic. 

· Loss of strength and drive. If your car begins losing power, it could be your transmission has also lost its power and needs a tune-up.
